Bought the fencing manual because I practice HEMA, but it's definitely not for the feint of heart. It's challenging to read and interpret, especially if you're doing it solo. For the casual practioners, I wouldn't recommend starting with this, despite what you might read from other HEMAists (they would probably recommend the 1570 edition anyway). The treatise's terminology is difficult, and the archaic language makes figuring out the instructions painful.Start with YouTube videos first. If you have access to instructors and/or study groups, go with them as well. Only then should you consider reading the treatise.I don't regret the purchase as it's the actual translation of a historical manual. But it will take a while before I try to go through it again.

I'm sure the translation is accurate so my complaint is probably with the original German sword master who was obviously not an author by trade. There is some good information in this book, but the organization is horrible unless you are already familiar with all the terminology and various guards and strikes. Even that information is in the book, but it comes after the instructional text, so if you are still learning, like me, you end up flipping back and forth between the glossary at the end and the text. And the pictures are beautifully drawn but not nearly as instructional as you would find in a more modern text -- if there were more modern texts. This could be a good resource book if someone wanted to develop their own classes for teaching this style of swordcraft.

I practice HEMA, specifically the sword plays from this very book with my sword club. This is the updated/revised version of Meyer. The pictures are in line with the text now, instead of gathered up at the end of the chapters.

This can be viewed as a "rough draft" of Joachim Meyer's work that would be published later on in 1570. This includes watercolor images of the various movements, but his "The Art of Combat" is far more complete and detailed I think.This would make an excellent addition to any HEMA library, but one might want to invest in "The Art of Combat" first.

What is not to like about the work of Joachim Meyer, a man straddling the line between the earlier Longsword tradition as a full blown fighting style and the later tradition of it being more akin to "sport fencing"?The translation appears to be fine and the reproduction plates are crisp and clean.However for me it lacks the counterpoint of the original German text and the nuance in technique that can be present there.

Good read for those who already understand sword combat. Beginners may get lost.

Excellent read! Although I would loved it more if I didn't have to flip trough the book to find the images that were talked about in the text. Including them after the section of the text connected to them would be great! Still a must buy for all HEMA enthusiasts.

A fantastic new look on Meyer's work, including even a glimpse on the man itself. A obligatory text for those who study the longsword school of fencing.

I felt conned for buying this book. You will learn nothing from this book that you won't learn from airbnb's website or simply being a guest a few times. The front cover says "easily make up to $10,000 month" which I think is a great goal and an achievable goal but the pages therein give no plan for how to get there. Entrepreur Magazine's how to start your own travel hosting business is a much better resource.

We are all looking for ways to earn income these days or even extra income and becoming an airbnb host is a very good way of achieving that. But you can't just go into it blind, you have to know what you want to achieve what people are looking for and how to best market your accommodation. This brilliant book is fantastic at providing a really well thought out, straightforward strategy on how to do just that. It is well set out, extremely weell researched and gives you an informed and thorough guide on how to succeed at this. Very clever.

Super disappointed in what Mark has to offer. This same information can be found in about 10 minutes of research through airbnb's own site. The font is large and there is significant spacing leading me to believe this book should really only be half as thick. Was looking for some additional ways to boost my listings, but This did not provide that. I'd really question if mark has even done Airbnb or is just profiting off of reformatting what Airbnb already provides on their site. Definitely not worth the price.

Pretty much worthless. Obviously a self published "book" written by a amateur. Pages aren't even numbered! If the font wasn't so big and the margins so wide, it could be written on 7 or 8 letter size pages with standard font size and margins. Don't waste your money.

I am currently planning on starting an Air bnb. This book helped a good bit. Had some good things that help you prepare that I would not have otherwise thought of, for example... White sheets. I know, silly but they can be bleached or oxy cleaned after a fun night or just someone who may go to bed dirty. But yeah! Lots of other valuable information. Definitely worth it!

Osprey's New Vanguard #101, Zeppelins: German Airships 1900-1940 by Charles Stephenson, covers the development and operational role of German airships in the First World War. Although with the benefit of hindsight it seems pretty clear today that the zeppelins were a technological blind alley for the Germans, these craft still represent an interesting aspect of early aviation history. Unfortunately, readers will quickly realize that this volume fails to deliver the zeppelin story in a number of important areas, including basic data. There are a number of longer, more expensive volumes on zeppelins in the First World War and readers interested in serious study should not view this volume as a cheaper substitute. Stephenson begins with seven pages on the background to the development of airships in Germany in 1900-1914; although brief, this section is adequate. The rest of the volume focuses on airship operations in the First World War, with a brief section on German airships in the inter-war period. The author has included numerous excellent photographs from the Zeppelin Museum. The color plates include a dozen side profiles of different model zeppelins, a cross section diagram of LZ104, an airship with an observer's car, the destruction of SL 11, and the experimental launch of an Albatross fighter from LZ 80. The author also provides five pages of data on the airships and a bibliography which fails to even mention some of the excellent German websites available. The author concludes that the zeppelins were "fundamentally ill suited for war." This seems pretty obvious, given a hydrogen-filled airship that could explode from a burst of incendiary bullets, but I wish the author had actually attempted a little analysis. Indeed, the author does not even make the effort to inform the reader how many zeppelins were built during the war and how many were lost - although the reader can do it for himself. Apparently, somewhere between 80-115 zeppelins were built during 1914-1918 (I've seen many different figures), of which about 35 were lost to enemy action and 39 to accidents (I say about, since the comments in the author's table about the fate of each airship are often vague); this is a loss rate of about 70%. Curiously, the loss rate for all German standard aircraft from all causes in the war was about 57%; this means that the zeppelin losses were high, but not unusual for experimental weaponry. In fact, the data tables seem to lack a lot of basic information about the airships, such as crew size, cost, bomb load and defensive armament. The author provides "payload in tons" but this is deceptive; for example, he lists LZ 112 as having a payload of 43.5 tons, but the actual bomb load was only 4 tons - the rest was fuel and other consumables (possibly including crew weight). It would have been great if the author could at least have mentioned something about the costs of the zeppelin program, since it is obvious that Imperial Germany put large resources into this effort. The Hindenberg, built in 1935, cost about $2 million - money that might have been better spent on four-engine bombers. Other statistics and information, like the number of crewmen lost in the raids over England (he lists 528 civilians killed by zeppelins) would have put the strategic raids in better perspective. The whole issue of zeppelin construction, training and modification during the war are virtually ignored. The author's operational narrative is also a bit spotty, including missing the fact that it was a zeppelin that dropped the first 1,000-kilogram bomb over England. How were zeppelins organized ...in squadrons? Nor does the author even allude to the role of wireless radio in coordinating multi-ship raids and their use as scouts for the German High Seas Fleet in the North Sea. Amazingly, the author does not even mention what types of bombs were dropped from zeppelins - fragmentation, incendiary or high explosive? Furthermore, the inclusion of material on post-war zeppelins only served to detract from the space available to cover the core of this subject.

This book is a really quick read, with a fair number of photographs and illustrations. If you are looking for a book that covers the chronology of the German Airships and important details, this book delivers.There are some broken word issues (not many). The photographs and illustrations can be enlarged. Overall a good value. I would buy it again.

A decent reference for a grand, if brief, time in aeronautical history. It basically covers the use of the great Airships from their humble beginnings to their tragic end. A perfect book for a quick read as you await your Boeing 777 at the airport…

 Carrot Cake Cupcakes Makes 18 cupcakes CUPCAKES   2¼ cups all-purpose flour   1½ cups firmly packed light brown sugar   1 tablespoon baking powder  1 teaspoon ground cinnamon  ½ teaspoon salt  1½ cups grated carrots  ¾ cup vegetable oil  4 large eggs  1½ teaspoons vanilla extract    FROSTING  4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature  6 tablespoons (¾ stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature  1 teaspoon vanilla extract  2 cups powdered sugar    DECORATIONS  ½ cup shredded coconut, toasted  Jelly beans or speckled malted milk chocolate eggs  To make the cupcakes, preheat the oven to 325°F. Line 18 cups of two standard muffin pans with paper or foil liners.  In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a medium bowl, combine the carrots, oil, eggs, and vanilla and stir until blended. Add the carrot mixture to the flour mixture and stir gently just until blended.  Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling them only three-quarters full. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 16 to 18 minutes. Remove the pans from the oven and set them on a wire rack. Let the cupcakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to the rack. Let cool completely.  To make the frosting, in a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes. Turn off the mixer and scrape down the bowl with a rubber spatula. Sift the powdered sugar into the bowl, then beat on low speed until blended.  Using a small icing spatula, frost the cupcakes. Sprinkle the icing with the toasted coconut to create “nests,” then top each cupcake with three candies so that they look like “eggs.” Serve.
