I tutor small children in reading, and this entire line of books is so helpful, though I particularly like this one because it's got some great lessons about persevering despite of adversity. The language is just right for an early reader who's just switching over from phonics flashcards and the like to actual books, and the subject gets kids super (pun intended) excited. Also, comics are really adult-oriented these days, so if you have a superhero-loving four or five year old, this is your best bet.

My son is big into Captain America at the moment and he also loves reading books, where he can sit and read many books after one another, staying focused up to an hour just reading different stories. While this story explains the back story of Captain America, following the first movie, it was lengthy and wordy for a Level 1 reader. My son was able to sit and stay focused for the whole book, but I attribute that to his focus with being read to, and I can easily see other children not staying interested with how the book is written or intrigued enough with the pictures. I work with kids birth to three years old, and the majority of my clients would not be able to stay focused with this story. I think this book is a good fit for those aged 4-6, and will not keep the interest of most children under that range.

I am throwing this book away. It basically says if a boy is skinny (which my son inevitably will be) then they are weak and not healthy. But if you get an "energy shot" (sounds like steroids?) in a "secret lab" then you will be healthy, strong, and accepted. Disgusting! If this book were about a girl magically getting skinnier and "more beautiful" people would be freaking out. Boys are affected by negative body talk too! Protect your boy and don't get this book!

I bought this book for my toddler because he loves all things Captain America (and Hulk). Perhaps it's my fault for not thoroughly researching this Level 1 book beforehand, but I assumed this would be about Captain America fighting bad guys. VERY VERY WRONG. It's solely about Steve Rogers. There are roughly 30 pages in this book, and half of them picture a shirtless Steve Rogers. We wanted Captain America!!

Perfect book for our little Grey ! He’s 3 and loves superheroes ! He won’t sit down and read unless he is reading about avengers/Justice league. So it was a no brained. Great words to read but not too hard for a starter like him. Would have gave it 5* except it focuses on him before he was Capt America. First few pages my son likes to skip.

My 5 year old LOVES these books! It provides enough to keep him challenged but he is able to read it on his own for the most part!

It's okay. It shows and says colors. Some weird examples of the colors, but colors nonetheless. I think it would've been better if they'd presented them in a sequence that made sense. Firstly, the buttons on the right side you would think would correspond to the page with that color...1st page red, second either green or yellow...etc. But no, you're hunting for the color on the right that corresponds to the page. Also, I wonder why he didn't put them in rainbow order so they would have an easier transition learning about mixtures of colors? And finally, as another reviewer also mentioned, really weird that the last page "review" of all the colors leaves off half of them. Seems like it wasn't a very well thought out book.

The voice sounds tinny and canned and computerized. I don't even think it's a person, it's like your car navigator's voice but with even less personality. I've thrown this series of books away in favor of the ones that make animal sounds because the words are pronounced so weirdly. After a few weeks, one of the three books stopped working altogether and a second had the volume go down to a barely audible level, and this was certainly not from over-use. We read the Einstein animals book constantly and it still works great.

Purchased this book for my 12 month old granddaughter. I only had to show her twice how to use the buttons. Even though she is so young she does know how to push buttons on her interactive toys that she has had since she was old enough to be proped up in the corner of my sofa.I sat her on my lap with this book and because she is so little I simply showed her to use her thumb to press the button; she did and loves to sit with me and play (learn her colors).

As a former nursery school director and child care provider and mother of two grown sons, I have witness first hand the benefits of early learning. You can teach children from birth and these simple color books are an easy way to teach the names of colors and objects. I bought this book for my niece and she loves it, my brother says. The photos are charming. It is a good gift to give a new parent and child to help learn their colors. Children can learn their colors by age two. The Freakanomics researches indicated research shows that intelligence is related to how many books are in the house. Love to give books as a present for young children.

LOVE these books!!! My son has a collection of them (numbers, words, colors) and played with them incessantly before he began to speak. I believe they were very helpful in teaching him how to say the words as he got to push the buttons himself (sometimes, much to my chagrin, repeatedly - like hundreds of times, over and over....) but he loved them and was so entranced that he wouldn't even get upset when I had to leave the room (for my own sanity)

we had to return this product because the batteries leaked and damaged the contacts. When its an old book with batteries that is sealed, there is no review to make sure the product still works.

Mt son (1½) has all three of these books and they've been a great addition to our learning library! Each page is dedicated to a single color and has numerous items in that particular color on the page. This makes it great for not only learning colors, but other everyday items as well. The push buttons are bright and the voice says each color name loud and clear. There are times when he just doesn't want to sit with me and go over his colors and numbers, so these books still allow him to HEAR the word without my having to be there to say it to him. Overall, I definitely recommend this and the other two books in this collection. They've been a fun interactive way to teach my son his colors!

Came in good time frame. Packaging was fine. Grandaughter enjoys these books very much. We actually interact over the video chat with these books too. I'm sure I'll be purchasing more in the future . Great books, ty :)

I enjoyed the whole series. The only 'complaint' I had was that so many of the characters experienced the same type of abuse. But I am not a gay man so maybe that is more common in real life than I'd like to think?This was my introduction to this author and this series. I am SO glad I bought them in the sets because I was real concerned about ages. But then I realized even though this set is volume 1 they actually occur several years after the other Barettiis so the kids had grown into young men

So, I just finished reading the entire series in "crossover" order! I loved every minute of it! I usually get bored by the fourth book in a series and need a break from it. Not this one! I read them all, from #1-22! I loved how they tied together and each story unfolded in a very smart well devised way. The characters are well written, the action had me on edge and the emotions in each scene never failed to have my heart racing or searching for a tissue. Thank you Slone! I enjoyed the ride! Can't wait for what's to come!

Loved it. I love that the characters show such depth of feelings for each other. And the action & touch of a mystery keeps it interesting too. And I prefer reading the books this way so that you get to read them in the order that the author intended them to be read

The three books in this collection are full of damaged men trying to find light in the darkness or a way forward. With great story telling and characters worthy of love it was a pleasure to share in their journeys

Absolution: I’m usually a bit lukewarm on trios, but I liked this one, mainly because the characters were so sympathetic. The plot was pretty decently paced, with some good action.Salvation: I didn’t care for Ronan & Seth’s story because the seesawing Ronan did got to be too frustrating for me. (Just think what it was like for Seth.) It was just cruel and I didn’t think it made the story interesting. I would have liked to see Ronan commit earlier. I also would have liked to see less sex and more action. The sex scenes got boring.Retribution: This is a tough one, because I liked the characters, but not some of Hawke’s actions. He was too rough with Tate’s first time with him. It felt like dub con at best. (SPOILER FOLLOWS) I also felt that, as brutal as this series is, Kennedy should have stuck to her guns and let Hawke hunt Buck & Denny down. She has no trouble writing about rape and abuse or about the killing her men have done in the name of justice, but she is strangely reticent to have her men get their hands dirty in the present. It’s apparently not ok for Hawke to avenge his wife and come back to Tate free of that burden, but it is ok for him to kill one of her murderers so long as he is saving Tate. The other murderer lets Hawke off the hook for him completely by dying heroically.The main problem with this series is that, while it makes for an angsty, action-driven read, it’s not very memorable despite all the triggers and darkness. The characters don’t stand out from other characters in books of this type. There are basically two men in the whole series: the vengeance-driven, brooding man and the tragic, nurturing man. There are no characters with any lightness, humor, or vibrancy to differentiate them. Everyone in the series has a dark past, even the five year old! I gave myself a little time between books so that they would be more distinct to me, but I read the first book less than a month ago and I can only remember one of the MCs’ names. I wasn’t sure who Ronan & Seth were when they reappeared in Retribution. Characters and plots are too alike. While I understand people being brought together by similar circumstances, it seems that Kennedy could have thrown some levity or spice into the mix to make it less homogeneous.There were several proofing errors I found, but not enough to be objectionable. I expect I’ll pick up the next series if it’s on KU just to continue to pad out my reading, but I’d never buy these. I expect that as the series goes on, 5he homogeneity will get worse before it gets better. In the meantime, I’ll have something mindless and mildly enjoyable to read between better books.

I've read quite a few of Sloane Kennedy's books now, and believe these are three of the best. The characters in each story are well built and I believe readers will have no problem falling in love with each one of them.There is just the right amount of plot and romance, and the intimate scenes are the perfect blend of steamy and romantic.

Volume 1 of a family chosen is one of the best book of stories about I have read Im chose this book because I wanted the best reading experience of all the books wanted to by S. Kennedy and I could not be happier that I did locking forward to reading the rest of here books.

I don’t know where to begin rating this series .... I’m completely enraptured with this group of characters. Just be forewarned, have your meals prepared ahead of time and block out hours of down time because once you start reading about these men, you won’t want to stop!!!
