Charles Soule's take on the early days of Darth Vader continues to be an absolute delight to read. While I love the series by Kieron Gillen, Soule's look at the Dark Lord's early days is fascinating especially in terms of Vader trying to find his place among the Imperial machine. The second volume follows on Vader's search to find Jocasta Nu: the elderly archivist of the Jedi Temple (a character briefly featured in Episode Two). While Vader is itching to track down other targets such as Obi Wan, the Emperor wants to force Nu into giving up the deepest secrets of the Jedi Archives. Meanwhile, Vader continues to train the Inquisitors while forming a fun back and forth with the Grand Inquisitor of Star Wars Rebel fame. The book is an absolute blast to read thanks to some stunning sequences (such as the beautiful scenes of Vader's inner meditations with his inner light side still battling to come out) and some great character moments (such as Vader announcing himself in dramatic fashion to the Imperial Grand Moffs).

This new set of stories about Vader, of which this is the second volume, is a high mark among the Marvel Star Wars lines. In my opinion, the best series are Doctor Aphra, Poe Dameron, and now, Darth Vader Dark Lord of the Sith.I can't believe how good this is.I'm not going to say much. If you read Vol. 1, then just know that the quality does not drop in Vol. 2. And, I'll give you this teaser....Remember Jocasta Nu? She's the old librarian that Kenobi sees at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when he asks about Camino (in Attack of the Clones). This book turns her into a very cool character.And, yes....she's a Jedi!

This is the second volume in the new ongoing Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith series. It takes place shortly after Episode III, with Vader still discovering himself and Jedi still on the loose.The main story in this volume involves tracking down Jocasta Nu, the Jedi Temple archivist. I always liked the background Jedi from the prequels so it was col to see her come to center stage. I'm excited to see where her story leads. There's little hints about her new archive being used in the future. I could read (or watch) a whole series about the force sensitive children of the galaxy once the Empire takes control.The Grand Inquisitor as well as other inquisitors are shown in this volume. The Ninth Sister is introduced. I like the dynamic between the inquisitors and Vader. Vader is still defining his role within the Empire. The fear within the ranks we see in the original trilogy isn't present yet.I give this second volume a 5/5. I am more entertained by this ongoing series than the Star Wars ongoing series. I want to see more Jedi who escaped Order 66!

For the most part, the Marvel Star Wars books have been disappointing (the good ones: the first Darth Vader series, the early volumes of Star Wars, Obi-Wan and Anakin). This is a good one. This series takes place right after Episode III. Vader is dangerous, but neither well known nor at the height of his powers.The art and plotting are outstanding. I really enjoyed this (and I'm quite difficult about Star Wars comics and any movie after the original trilogy). Well done.

In the aftermath of Order 66, Vader is on the trail of Jocasta Nu, librarian and archivist of the Jedi Temple. Aided by the Inquisitiors and opposed by forces that want him dead, the Sith Lord cuts a swathe through editons 6-12 of the current Marvel run. Writer Charles Soule has really hit his stride with this book; the post Episode III era was seems to be a great sandbox for him to play in. The art is good in places, serviceable in others, but never really spectacular. Nevertheless, it serves the story well enough, and by the end of issue #12 the reader is left wanting more. Strongly recommended.

The outstanding young Vader series continues as Jocasta Nu attempts to infiltrate the Jedi Temple to retrieve important secret data from the Archives before it falls into the hands of the Sith. Still new to his role, Vader is beset upon by enemies without and within. His Sith meditation scenes are evocatively rendered and the story continues to deliver not only great character development but bits of lore that point to the past and the future. Great series!

This issue was super well done! It was great to see what happened to the Jedi archives and to the Master Librarian after Order 66.My hopes for future issues is to see Vader become softer and maybe look into padme’s relatives, only to be alienated by them and to then again fall back to the dark side and let his issues with Padme dip away slowly.

This story is the part 2 of Star Wars: Darth Vader Dark Lord Of The Sith. It’s about Vader on the mission to seek out any surviving Jedi. Coming from my point of view, it’s a great story and what I like about it is Vader being Vader, kicking butt and establishing why he’s the fearsome right hand of the emperor. I gave it as a gift and the friend to whom I gave it was deeply touched and loves it. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the reproductions.I expect only the best from the National Gallery and these images aren't as beautiful as they should be. That said, it's a lovely book.

The book is well made and has great artwork in it, but it was not what I was expecting. I was hoping for more specifically religious artwork and more in depth art appreciation in the reflections. If you are looking for religious reflections with artwork to go along with it this will do. Once my expectations are adjusted it is a nice little book.

This book is wonderful! Easy for us to read along with our 12 year old child, or for him to read on his own. Great for all ages. Colorful photos. Covers many topics with short easy explanations, and has a glossary of terms.

my kids (4 and 6) really enjoyed the book though at the end they still were unclear on exactly what Wicca is (they are young so sure that plays a part). I liked it as well. The thing I like most is that the author never tried to say there is only one way, she says this is how some pagans believe/act, this is how others do then some don't do anything like this ect. I love that :) Wish she went a little more into each Sabbat but this is a nice compact (covers a lot of topics) intro book for younger kids. Would recommend.

This is a wonderful kid-friendly book for any family. I have found it difficult to explain such topics as altars, ritual tools and casting a circle, but this book provided wonderful pictures along with kid-friendly explanations. I would highly recommend this book to anyone hoping to instill Pagan or Wiccan beliefs into your family. (My daughter is 10 and she understands all that we've read so far.) I've attached a photo of the chapter listings so you can see just how much it covers. Blessed Be!

This book is written so that it can be read directly to children and talks about a wide range of basic Pagan topics on their level. My oldest likes to read the passages to his younger brother and then we all discuss it.

Great way to help me answer questions about my faith to my 7 year old. Reads pretty dry though, it's not something she chooses to sit down and read on her own. It does help me to explain things to her though, when she has questions.

My 8 year old daughter and I love this book. We read it together so she can ask me questions but it explains everything so well.

Absolutely exquisite artwork! It looks to be a great book from browsing through it. Excited to give it to my children for Yule!

Ecologist Charles M. Peters takes a community-based participatory research approach to his field work where he facilitates citizen science and action through an integration of indigenous and western science. The importance of a community-based participatory research approach is reaffirmed in the author’s account as a forest ecologist. It is obvious that the author has tremendous respect for the ways the communities he has worked with manage local resources.Within these pages is a treasure trove of sustainability solutions for pressing land use and natural resource management challenges that we can all learn from. This book is one step closer to shifting the paradigm in the way we approach conservation and natural resources. I would recommend Managing the Wild not only to learn and rethink about the way we approach conservation and sustainability solutions, but also for inspiration and hope. Overall, this book left me inspired of the wonders of science, field research, and the cultural practices of communities who have intimate relationships and knowledge about their surroundings.

Great read. Dr. Peters does a wonderful job of blending the scienticific with the anecdotal. I oftentimes felt I was in the forest with him. He shows great respect and affection for both the forests and the people who inhabit them. As the book went on, he seemed to grow as a scientist and as a human being. It left me wanting to read more about his life and his adventures.

Very accessible, each chapter stands alone. I 'm not a scientist but I do love trees (I have acreage in the Sierra Nevada mountains) \impressive fortitude on these various projects with no apparent footsteps to follow, just good science.

The author and scientist, adventurist-Chuck Peters- takes you on a journey into the many global remote forests of our planet. He introduces you to the people living in these regions, many are faced with the struggle of survival-living off the what the earth provides, and the fact that the world has demands on their resources. The scientist comes to the rescue, by providing ways learned from the inhabitants of these forests, he combines their traditional ideas with modern scientific ones to create a realistic, sustainable way to manage the wilds. A great read by an extraordinary person who is committed to preserving the wild habitats, by facilitating a possible solution for healthy world forests and to benefit those whom are dependent on it, as it turns out, people like you and me. If you're a recent convert to Pastafarianism or just interested in the core "beliefs", this is the definitive book on the subject. I purchased my copy shortly after becoming a minister of the Pastafarian faith. The hardcover version which I received has a handy cloth bookmark built in.As far as religious texts go, this is probably the most entertaining gospel I have ever read. The book clearly defines the religious practices and beliefs of the followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, along with contrasts to other currently popular religions. Many current debates that have our society separating church and state are discussed in clear and logical ways to bring the reader to the conclusion that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a loving and caring deity who wants humans to be happy and live fulfilling lives.Some things I learned from this book:1. Gravity is actually the result of the FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster)'s invisible noodly appendages lovingly holding everything down on Earth where we are safe.2. Heaven awaits the faithful with beer volcanoes and a stripper factory.3. Ramendon, Pastover, Holiday (a.k.a. December), and every Friday are religious holidays that should be celebrated by consuming carbs and intoxicating beverages.

After reading the bible multiple times in my youth I had no choice but to become an atheist. I thought I was done with "divine" creation, wonton bloodlust, irreconcilable moral quandaries, and the valuation of women in terms of livestock. But then comes the FSM and I can already feel the damp touch of his divine, noodly appendage guiding me back to spiritually. I like the fact that this religion promotes equality among all people and genders and, let's be honest... beer volcano. 'Nuff said.

This book was handed to my by the religious leader of my church after a discussion regarding my son's legal problems.In this book Zehr takes issue with the current system, which many claim is based on the Old Testament of the Bible. He views the criminal justice system as one which has been built on retributive justice. This system is built on retribution, the "eye for an eye" viewpoint. Zehr raises several substantial questions:Is the retribution system working as a deterrent to crime?Is the retribution system truly in line with the ideas of the Bible -- both Old and New Testaments?Does the retribution system really help the victim?Does "punishment" really rehabilitate the offender?Moving forward Zehr then talks about a restorative system of justice. This system of justice is more akin to our civil courts than our criminal courts. Rather than being a crime against the state, the action of the offender is regarded as a crime against a person. Both victim and offender see each other. If done well, both victim and offender come to know each other as people, not just faceless stereotypes. This step alone can make a huge difference. For the victim, it's a chance to express his or her sense of violation. For the offender, it's a chance to understand that he or she hurt a person, not just the owner of a house that he or she ripped off.Zehr realizes that he is wrestling with a utopian ideal. Restorative justice is far easier for us to accord to those who have done crimes such as burglary (unless you have been a victim of one and understand how violating the event can be). But what about the more brutal crimes of rape, child molestation or murder? Zehr believes the system needs substantial revamping in these ways as well, but acknowledges it is a much more difficult solution.Food for thought.

This book is a true help for everyone who would like to get a new perspective on crime and justice. Howard Zehr is a leading scholar on the issue of Restorative Justice and his insight has caused me to think differently about many issues related to criminal justice.
