About the Author

GENGOROH TAGAME was born in 1964 and lives in Tokyo. After graduating from Tama University of Art, Tagame worked as an art director while writing manga and prose fiction, contributing illustrations for various magazines. In 1994 he cofounded the epochal G-Men Magazine and by 1996 he was working full-time as an openly gay artist. He is the author of dozens of graphic novels and stories which have been translated into English, French, Italian, and Korean. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries across Europe and America. My Brother's Husband, Volume 1 marked his first all-ages title, and earned him a 2018 Eisner Award, as well as the Japan Media Arts Award for Outstanding Work of Manga from the Agency of Cultural Affairs.

It's a good, bittersweet cry for some many reasons. Mostly in how I'll miss Mike too & how I want more of his story; especially the part where he finds another love & gets a Happily Ever After. This series was just beautiful which is another reason why I'm all misty. Mike's easy acceptance by Kana, his eventual welcome to the family by Yaichi & the way the three grew together was just beautiful. I know it would have been weird, but I can't help wishing Mike & Yaichi had ended up together. Their little family was just too cute to break up. There is a real sense of closure, peace & happy for as long as they have, though, with this. I don't want to call it an ending, though, because I am begging you, Gengoroh Tagame, please write more. There is so much more to be told here. Like My Husband's Twin to shift the story to Mike's perspective & My Canadian Uncle to continue the stories when Kana grows up. Seriously, please especially that one because I have this whole picture forming in my head of Kana opting to study abroad for college & staying with her beloved uncle Mike, who still hasn't really moved on from Ryoji & Mama's romanticizing little heart just can't take that, so she goes on mission to find Mike love. There would be calls to/from Yaichi with an eventual visit so he can visit Ryoji's grave & Mike can show Yaichi the home & landmarks he shared with Ryoji. Through the sentimental journey Mike comes to realize that the pain is gone, though the regret of having been robbed of forever with Ryoji will always be there to a degree, so with both Kana & Yaichi cheering him on Mike finds love again. And if his new love happens to be a fully grown Kazuya Ogawa then a successful international businessman setting up a new location in Mike's area of Canada I would totally love that series. Please write that quick before my muses demand I use the idea to get back to writing fanfiction because I know it's too big an idea for me to do justice & I cannot leave another fandom with a lengthy WIP on which I eventually stop making any progress.

(This is a review for both volumes of the story.) I read about this series somewhere online, and immediately came to Amazon to find it. I bought both books at the same time. And when they arrived, I devoured them in short order, to the point of letting my dinner get cold while I read. It's an excellent story that tells us about cultural differences, what makes a family, getting over fears of the unknown/different, how children and adults don't see things the same way, and how adults instill prejudice into children's minds. The art is excellent! Being from the western world, it's still a little strange when I get Asian books that start at the "back" and I have to remind myself to read the righthand pages before the lefthand ones, but that's just an observation, not a problem. Highly recommended.

As with the first volume, living in a liberal city in 2018, some of the ideas presented here seem a little trite, but the main character grew enough in the first book that the ideas became a little more nuanced, and regardless, it's good to have a better perspective of what GLBT struggles in the 2010s are like in other countries. This is one of those series that I definitely recommend reading at least once, especially considering how quick of a read it is.

I absolutely adored Vol.1 of My Brother's Husband, so as soon as the release date of this was announced, I was thrilled.This volume is just as wonderful, meaningful, and happy as the first. It tackles homophobia candidly, but doesn't try to tug at your heart strings too much. The overarching theme of this book is the same as the last: how can I and the people around me become better people in order to create a world more accepting than we might have had in the past?The three main characters (and the ex-wife who is still a big part of their lives) all make me so happy. The family moments they have together are warm and genuine. As much as this manga works to chew over serious issues, I'd consider this a feel good book. Kana is absolutely adorable, and being a big brother, felt as though she was an EXTREMELY real portrayal of a kid wanting to understand the world better.I cannot recommend this highly enough. $15 is pricey for a book that most people can probably finish in a couple of sittings, but it's one that's worth buying in hard-back. I've lent Vol.1 to friends, reread it once already, and am glad I've got a hard-back copy that will last a long time.

This novel concludes the further story of the family visit with Mike, the widowed husband to Yaichi's twin brother Rioyji. Yaichi's daughter Kana and his ex-wife Natsuke round out the cast of principal characters. This is a realistic and touching story about the unspoken homophobia in Japan (where gay marriage is not legal) and how Yaichi deals with the feelings he experiences after realizing that he estranged his brother when he came out to him in high-school. The artwork is wonderful, and this series deserves all the awards it received.

Based solely on the description, I decided to order Volumes 1 and 2 of this series. And I am very glad I did. A wonderful book on many levels. The story is both profoundly moving and lightheartedly fun at the same time. It has opened a window onto Japanese culture in a fun but also very informative way, illuminating the issue of bigoted attitudes toward gay people in Japanese society.. I recommend this book highly.

This manga is beautiful and heartfelt. It hits so many poignant issues from coming out to struggling with acceptance. Single parenthood and navigation against your own culture to pave a new way. I've never read another manga like this one and I hope it inspires many more. As a queer person myself, stories like this are crutial. I wish there were more (or any) stories like these when I was first growing up and first coming out. Just exposure and seeing relatible characters/experiences means everything. But even now, it means the world to me watching these perfectly fleshed out characters become a family. (Ending almost made me cry.)

I bought this as a "welcome to Northern California" gift for a friend, and was extremely tempted to keep it for myself instead, as the store only had one copy. The photos were all so beautiful! But I caved in and gave it to her, so now I'm on the waiting list for my own copy. I'm such a good friend;-)

this is a brilliant book on the north coast of california proving that it is just as beautiful as oregon's coast

I grew up in Fort Bragg (along the Mendocino Coast) and got my Bachelor's degree at Humboldt State University (just north of Eureka), and I now live in Lansing, Michigan. I love Michigan, but I miss the majestic, rugged scenery of the North Coast of California. This book brought me back to the sights of my memory with such excellent quality photographs, I am tempted to buy it for all of my friends who've moved away from California. Thank you to the authors for choosing the places I love (Fern Canyon, Trinidad Head, Russian Gulch) and for including some of the creatures not found in the Midwest (salamanders, banana slugs!)

Having recently re-located to the Northcoast of California, we became captivated by this great collection of photographs. All of our family and friends received copies to celebrate the beauty of the Northcoast. This collection is a great way to share what we see every day.

When I walked into Barnes & Noble two weeks ago, I wasn't actually looking to purchase a book. Usually, I go in, browse for 30 minutes, and get out. But when I walked around to the Physics and Science section, the first thing I saw was Elon Musk's face.Inevitably, I picked it up and began reading.2 pages in, I decided I was in this for the long haul and sat on the floor, right there in the middle of the store. 15 pages in, my friends finally found me and forced me to leave. But I couldn't part with this. I needed this book. Those first 15 pages captured me like so few books do (in fact, only one book in the past year has totally stolen my attention like this).So I bought Elon Musk feeling on top of the world and excited to keep reading.I travel a lot between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, PA, so, since I'm in the middle of taking classes in Pittsburgh, I swore to only read this book on the bus, because I knew once I picked it up again, I wouldn't put down.I was right.The next day, I got on the bus, got to reading, and tuned out the world. Three hours later, I was nearly halfway through -- and WOW. Vance's writing style flowed right through my mind. No clunky sentences, no jarring phrases. It's such an easy book to read, despite the complex nature of the contents.Elon Musk, if you don't know, is a biography. Yes, a biography. You'd expect the case-study of someone's life to be boring and uneventful, dragging until the very end.This wasn't the case at all.Vance opens the book at an interview with Elon Musk himself. The first line, a quote from Musk, "Do you think I'm insane?", perfectly captures the whole context of the biography. Because as you experience the story, as you see the challenges Musk went through to reach the pinnacle he's at today, the question nags at you. Musk isn't soft-spoken, or easy on his employees, or a man who kicks his legs up on his desk and snoozes while his companies mill around him. Vance shows how Musk is both the CEO and an employee of his companies, simultaneously the teacher and student. He gets in the work, asks all the right questions, gives all the right orders. His vision is THE vision, and if you get in the way, Musk has been known to fire you on the spot.Musk breaks every convention, every tradition, every standard. Vance takes you deep into the details, from Musk's childhood and lineage in South Africa, all the way to Canada and the United States, where the bulk of the story unfolds.When Musk looks at big businesses, he sees unmovable behemoths that refuse to change their methodologies. American innovation became a thing of the past. Technology and industry was growing - but nowhere near as fast as it should. So we follow Musk's journey from his small start-ups, Zip2 and X.com, and move into his larger, more permanent ventures, namely SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity.I myself am a huge fan of Elon Musk. Still, until the past year or two, I only thought of him as "that guy who made SpaceX" and "that guy who runs Tesla." Until reading this book, I never knew the struggle -- no, the hell he went through to make and keep these companies. You think, oh, he just has a lot of money.Yeah, now he does. But did you know SpaceX and Tesla were hours away from going bankrupt? Did you know that the Falcon 1 rocket kept failing, and one more failed launch literally meant the end of SpaceX? Did you know SpaceX tested these rockets on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and would fix problems they encountered in a matter of days, as compared to months by standard companies?This book is the first time Musk has explicitly let anyone interview him for a biography. Aside from a few questionable quotes that have been publicly denounced by Musk after the publication of this book, we're still given a tremendous amount of insight into his head and how he runs the companies. Vance interviewed more than 300 people and spent over two years compiling this account. And I have to give credit to how up-to-date the information is. There are several events Vance mentions that occurred into 2015, such as the first landing attempt of Falcon 9 on the sea barge, which took place in January, and he refers to the second attempt as being in a couple weeks, which means that Vance included this information on a very tight deadline, probably mid-March (the second landing attempt happened on April 14, 2015).I want to congratulate you, Mr. Vance. Well done. Very well done. I'm going to reread this book in a few weeks (probably after the scheduled June 19th third Falcon 9 landing attempt, this time on solid ground, as opposed to a barge). Anyone who wants a ridiculously thorough insight into Elon Musk's life and companies should read this book. It had me from Page 1 all the way to Page 363, and even the appendices that come after.This is an incredibly inspiring book, a important look into a game-changing business strategy, and a valuable lesson to the world. As Musk says, "If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it."

One of the most inspiring books I have ever read. A few life changing points for me:1) First intro chapter shows how relentless the author was. Great lesson there. He didn't ask for permission, he just went out and wrote it. Said he was going to write it with or without him on board. Which ultimately won Elon's respect since that's how he operates too.2) Elon and his brother Kimbal coming over at 18 years old from south Africa. Their tactic about picking up the newspaper and cold calling the most interesting people to take to lunch is awesome. I challenge myself to do this now and I think its a great strategy to get out of your comfort zone. I gather he had the idea for pay pal with that tactic - it landed him the bank internship where he discovered the inefficiencies of banking world.3) Elon has no "fear" button. Inhuman ability to withstand massive risks, pressure, and family drama all at once.4) I bought 20 books. That's how much I loved it. Would call up and take a "mad scientist" or business investor or tesla owner For coffee/lunch/networking and tell them about how great this book is and see what crazy ideas they had brewing as well. Started connecting them together and meeting all kinds of moonshot thinkers. Great Networking Icebreaker.5) Requested a tesla charging station be installed at my place of work because well...we need to encourage more telsas around here and If Elon stops by we will be ready.6) Googled Justine found her Ted talk she did about him And enjoyed Elons commencement speech too. 7) Started an interest in this whole solar idea, Bought a solar cell phone charger that will be a gateway into way Into it and go from there. Tours of people that have solar homes in the area.8) Most ambitious dude ever with this whole Mars thing.9) After you read this book you will never again complain about being busy.10) I didn't realize Larry Page and Elon were so close. Hope he is wrong about the AI thing though, but also triggered me to buy the book "the singularity is near"I love the impact of the cover and I write a favorite quote in and give as a gift of inspiration to innovators in the area.

I've been inspired by Elon Musk for a while. His accomplishments are legendary and I wanted to know more about the men behind them. This book doesn't disappoint. We see both the amazing drive and unstoppable vision as well as the ongoing challenges Musk has had working with people who are inevitably either not as smart, but as driven or more likely, both. Few had the fortitude to stick with him and the ones that do are fiercely loyal.What I love most about Elon's story is how powerfully he deals with every obstacle thrown into his path. Literally nothing could stop him. Not looming bankruptcy or bad press or any of dozens of other issues that would have stopped most of us. I hope to find 5% of that drive in myself after reading this book.

This book has made me one highly motivated aerospace engineering student and given me some great insight into what it would be like should I ever get hired at SpaceX.

It would take a concentrated study of this worlds history timeline in order to have even a dim understanding of the multi threads of human life and progress through the centuries since our first parents, Adam and Eve, walked in the Garden of Eden - but had, in the words of an author, their first born among the thorny pricks of a fallen world. Perhaps the compilers of this tome can be given partial credit for the attempt. How accurate and successful? The many, many questions asked, and unanswered - may rate its value. It is an interesting and engrossing addition to ones home library.

Except that the chart ends in 1990, this is an excellent correlation of world events. We first saw this displayed along the wall of a local coffee shop - and Amazon came to the rescue. Now to find a place for it in our house! In the meantime, it can be leafed through like an ordinary coffee-table volume. Fascinating stuff, especially if you missed out on critical history courses from K-12 and majored in science or engineering (and had little time available for studying the depths of history).

This is exactly what I was looking for. It is a "Facsimile Edition" but seems high-quality and complete to me. I have seen this before, but never wanted to pay so much for it. This has expanded my understanding of many old testament events. Now, I am thrilled to be able to open the pages to the time frame of an old-testament event and see what was going on in the world at the time.

We have used this timeline chart a lot as we have read of different events in history. It has given us a better perspective of what was going on in the world as a whole at the time the events we read of occurred. We can expand the chart and look at it as a long chart that is about 18 feet long or we can leave it folded up and look at it as a book. It is printed on one continuous paper as thick as poster board and bound on one end as a book to the cover. It is very cleverly done and very handy. The size when closed is 11.5 in x 17.75 in x 0.5 inches.

This is my first time ever to write a review. However, I believe I'm an expert on this Wall Chart of World History. My experience covers about 25 years with this Super Book on World History. The name of the Book in the original setting was (The Wall Chart). (Of world history) from earliest times to the present. This is an apt description as the pages fold out to 15.5 feet in an accordion fashion, and indeed makes a super (Wall Chart.) Most of the time you will use this wonderful book just like any book you use by just turning the pages. There's no need to fold them out.The description on the back of one of my first editions says. "14 connecting panels unfold across 40 centuries before, and 20 centuries after, Christ." In brief, the Book starts at 4004 BC and follows Ushers timeline with all the Bible characters shown as linear and their Children are all named and how long they lived and are shown also linear in the same fashion.After Noah's flood, Noah's children Shem, Ham, Japheth branch out into the different nations, and all the time line of events that follows shows the different nations below in all the expansion of those nations up until now, and my last book was up to date and shows our present time including the USA to President George W. Bush.This is my experience as I have bought as many as 30 to 40 during my 25 years of buying these wonderful books.The original printing was first published in the 1890's. My own first purchase of the printing goes back to 1989 as a reprint. That's 22 years to today, March 2011. All of my later purchases are reprinted editions since then and are known as a (facsimile edition). The quality of the pages is super, the images are super, and the coloring is super. Nothing about the quality of this book is less than super and that includes the clarity!The Truth about history is found in Bible Chronology and seems to be the closest to any form of world history. This book itself compares with the other historic timelines and calls other timelines (Exaggerated Chronologies.), and gives examples of why they are called that.My first purchases of these books were to use in teaching and to give all my family members copies and to even give a few to my grandkids schools.Everything I'll explain from here will reveal my frustrations to get my last 4 super books.All the revised additions I have up to the last were Barnes and Noble on the Jacket.I knew that the only way for me to get more of these books, I'd have to buy old used ones, I thought.* In Hawaii about a year ago I found what I thought was the books on sale again. The pages inside were totally different. I did not purchase these. Remember the two words (Time Chart) It keeps showing up but different.* I went to Amazon who has been super working with me. I put in the old ISBN # and the Icon of the book looked like just what I wanted. I just ordered one this time, and when the book came it was used like new. The book still had the correct name on it (The Wall Chart of World History), but was updated and better. I got better than I had ordered. How often does that happen?* This next time I ordered 3 of these books, but when I saw my order, it said The (Timechart) History of the World: 6000 years of World History $25 each. I knew I didn't want the Timechart so I cancelled that order. Amazon help was just super. Remember the two words (Time Chart).This time I had an Amazon employee help me. I ordered 4 new at $29.95 each and the identifier was. (The Wallchart of World History (Revised): Form Earliest times to the Present - A Facsimile Edition) Hardcover by: Edward Hull. Just what I wanted. Here's why I'm writing this 5 star approval. You guessed it, the title on the cover is and I'm looking at it now. (The Timechart history of the World). My heart just sank. I quickly opened the first book, and it was revised to George W Bush, and it is by far the best of all the editions. I haven't tried yet, but they say this one expands to 30 ft. Yikes.You may have to order this (new) like I did. You won't regret it. The new publishers (Barnes and Noble) have added a disclaimer "The Victorian elements of the chart reflect prevailing knowledge and understanding and any inaccuracies reflect this: the publishers can accept no any responsibility for the accuracy of fact or interpretation throughout". The author, Professor Hull was a "young earth" guy and my earlier edition of this chart reflects this. B&N added a map of the "ancient world to c. 500 A.D." in the front that reflects millions of years which seems to be their only issue with the chart itself which is, thankfully, unaltered. B&N also added a large map legend in the front showing you how to use the chart which is helpful and is not on my earlier edition.

The Wallchart of World History shows who lived at the same time all around the globe. It was fascinating to think about who might have had contact with whom, maybe even knew them personally.Since this chart dates back to the 19th century I'm not confident about its accuracy on a number of points, however it is fun to see what was going on in the different civilizations at the same time, including China, South America, and India, as well as Europe.The reverse side covers individual countries, mostly in Europe, with their history of leaders. There are numerous maps, lists, and comments that are interesting to read. It is a fun way to learn history and how different inventions and discoveries affected people around the world.
