I have used my go to theory and try to watch the series or movie first. This saves me much disappointment when the book is much better than the "Hollywood" version. I don't know if it will work when the written source is as sparse as a comic book ! This first volume gave minimal details and I really appreciated the expansion and embellishments of the TV series. We will see if this trend continues with further volumes!

This is a pretty short graphic novel, but being how the TV show remake of it has become one of the most successful horror TV programs of all time, this is well worth obtaining. The illustrations are all in black and white but very detailed and look very good on the Kindle Fire HD. It's interesting reading to see the skeleton of what the much more padded out pilot episode for the Walking Dead was based on. Bicycle Girl for one was expanded on in the TV version a lot more. I like seeing what Rick and the other characters were imagined to look like before TV casting happened as well. There's also previews of another graphic novel after this one called Cloudfall which starts off with an opening frame of a naked woman in bed on top of a guy, she is being fondled and quite enjoying it. I mention this as the hard copies of the Walking Dead graphic novels are checked out by a lot of kids in the library (even though they are in the adult graphic novel section) where I work so this may be a deterrent for some parents.

The Walking Dead #1 by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, who provided the Illustrations is a the story that follows most of the narratives within the first few episodes from the first season of the AMC TV show of the same name. This issue is about Rick Grimes who is a Sheriff of a small town in Kentucky who awakes in a hospital after being Comatosed after being shot while on duty. He returns home to find his family, son Carl and wife Lori, gone. He meets his new neighbor, who points him towards Atlanta. Rick then sets off to Atlanta to search for his family. The comic is great and very fast paced. The comic in my opinion is better paced than the TV show. The characters are well fleshed out, parden the pun. You feel for each character and the series connects all of them together beautifully. I enjoyed this comic and would definitely recommend it to others.Thank you for reading my review.

I used to read comics when I was a teen and I grew out of them and into novels. I have occasionally tried to read a comic that looked interesting (From Hell, Fall of Cthulu, Various Starwar comics, Way of the Rat, The Path) and quickly losing interest. After watching The Walking Dead since season 1 and seeing the Walking Dead #1 for Kindle for free, I thought I would take a chance. This series is the first one in years to keep my interest, to keep me wanting more.I knew that the series differs from the show, which I see as a good thing. The differences all me to have two journeys with Rick and Carl, instead of just one. Some things are the same, but no one ever gets up in arms about the things that are the same, they go apeshit over the differences.

This comic sucks compared to the show....Graphics weren't all that great either.Waste of time to read this story.

I love the show and think it is some of the best, sharpest story telling I have encountered anywhere. I am reading the comics to get a feel for the source material. I am not an avid reader of comics, maybe only read a handful in my life. The storytelling in this first comic of the Walking Dead seems simplistic to me. The development on the show is amazing and this pales in comparison to that. Going to keep reading, though because that's how much I love the television version.

As a debut, this was good but not gripping. The dialogue is a bit ham-fisted in spots, but it's not terrible. The story itself was short—only about half the book. The rest is a preview for a different comic. One thing I really enjoyed was the letter from the writer, in which he explains his motive behind developing this story. The story of this has clearly been overwhelmed by the television series based on the work, but this still stands as good storytelling, with a lot of thought and heart.

Robert kirkman delivers a fantastic example of zombie fiction with his ongoing series, The Walking Dead. Imagine a world with no tv, no internet, no power, nothing. A good zombie story shows our society at its core, and that's exactly what the walking dead does. As members of today's society, we are materialistic and greedy. With every advance in technology, we get farther and yet closer to wiod animals. When the disease hits, all of that is technology is taken away, people are exposed as who they are. Animals. We are all animals, creatures made for one reason. To live. To
