I love this journal so much! And the book it is based off of is even better. The activities are simple entry ideas that really help boost creativity! I recommend this for anyone trying to improve their creative mindset. I took away a star because the corners were bent when I got it, it was shipped in an envelope and i think a box would have protected it better. BUT, it wasn’t a deal breaker for me because I know I’ll use it a lot and it will probably look a lot worse in a couple weeks anyway. The fourth photo is an entry example I made, my handwriting looks very similar to the example writing but I believe I will really fall in love with this journal.
I'm a big fan of Austin Kleon's and this book, it brings back memories. I learned to draw from a book called "Draw Squad" with my dad walking me though the exercises in that; similarly off beat drawing exercises per page. This is a throw back to my childhood when I learned to draw, but this has a wider variety of interesting, creative games in it. It's fun and it's eye opening, I like it myself and I think it would be a nice present to that creative person in your life.Each page basically has a little game/task/exercise that incorporates creativity, drawing, writing, etc. It's good fun!
I love this journal. So many ideas to get the creative juices flowing. I took up a regular collage habit after the exercise where you pull things from your trash and make a collage. I also loved the exercise where I cut up my old writing and pasted into a new poem/story. I’ve incorporated my cut up hand written words into my collages now. Fun book you can carry with you and play with anytime. You really don’t even have to be artistically inclined to enjoy this play book. Your brain will appreciate the alternative to looking at the internet:)
Just received Austin Kleon's "The Steal Like an Artist Journal: A Notebook . . ." today from Amazon! I love the quality of the journal itself and its built-in bookmark! I purchased this journal as a gift for a relative who draws and is a performance artist! I'm so excited and proud to give this gift to such a creative soul! Love all the very clever, creative inspiring daily "jump starts", "catapults"and "keep up the momentum" liners on each page!

The rest is just gushing...I've liked this guy's work since finding Newspaper Blackout, but then went complete fan-boy when Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative and Show Your Work!: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered were released. This journal is the perfect complement to the work that came before and does a wonderful job of immersing you in the process. Forcing you into the role of participant rather than observer. You only get the full value from this book by putting the ideas into action from its predecessors. The perfect gift would be a bundling this book with Steal Like and Artist and Show Your Work (and a few of these...Sharpie Fine Point Black Pens (1742663).
This journal is awesome!! There are so many creative things to do here. I haven't been able to do much in it yet but really look forward to writing in it. There are so many great ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Some of them are: "draw a comic where each panel is an hour of your day", " take a nap and fill the page when you wake up". There is a lot of space in here to write and draw. A lot of journals like this have very similar prompts to each other, I keep seeing the same stuff. But this one is very unique and creative. I can't wait to fill t up!
I've always wanted to own his books and I borrowed through it at a bookstore but didn't have the funds to get it. Totally glad this time I got this. It's full of great activities and really helps sculpt your creativity. Recommend it to anyone. Now I'm gonna need to collect his other books.
One of my favorite inspiring books. Austin Kleon is now someone I quote constantly and think back to when I need inspiration. His second book "Show Your Work" is just as awesome, possibly even better!
