It does assume the basics, namely, that you know how to set up a YouTube account, know how to do Keyword research using Google's Adwords, and have a little technical ability. He focuses on how to videos and provides so many tips that I found myself taking notes! I'm not sure if all the tips work, but he does provide reasons for them all that make sense. I'm eager to try some out!

Whereas this book has some great insight on key factors in improving your SEO strategy, a lot of this books' content is common sense and readily available, within seconds, through a simple Google search (ironically enough). This book is rather short with numerous type-o's throughout, most notably when Green recommends that you use as close to 60 "words" as possible in your YouTube video title. He quite clearly means "characters," but such a serious type-o should not have been overlooked before selling the book on the Amazon digital book market, and this book has several of them. There are some very interesting "tricks" of YouTube SEO strategy that Green shares, however, such as using quotes around certain tags in your video tags section which I had not thought of trying before. Thus, this book is worth the $3 purchase - just don't expect to learn tying drastically different from what you might already know. A great beginner book, not a very adequate book for those already familiar with basic SEO strategy.

I love this book. I am currently using the techniques and can already tell the difference. This allowed me to become more organized and make a template for posting my videos! I will definitely recommend this book to other potential YouTubers!

I enjoyed this little book and felt it had a number of tips that were new to me. Boethius wrote this while in jail waiting for his execution around 524 - 525 AD. I had never read anything by the man, but this text, short as it is, became one of the cornerstones of medieval thought and influenced countless other authors and thinkers.Boethius wrote it to console himself. In his darkest hour he turned to two things, God and his training in philosophy to give himself hope, to sort through his doubts and concerns. His imaginary conversation with Lady Philosophy shows his education from Athens, his reaching out to God for his final and ultimate source of strength is driven from his belief in the miracle in Jerusalem.This isn't argument for the existence of God, Boethius assumes outright that God exists, this is a book from a man on the ropes, his life in tatters, with no help coming and his death assured. This is the cry of a man seeking hope from the sources that had supported him his adult life. This is from a man that was staring fate square in the eye and refused to do anything except meet it on his own terms. Boethius ends the Roman era with aplomb while planting the seeds of Medieval Scholasticism.The book is easy to read, his arguments clear and straight to the point. He treats the existence of God like the existence of philosophy, both are beyond dispute.But what struck me the most was how timeless his worries and concerns were and how Lady Philosophy's answers are just applicable now; Boethius is relevant today as much as he was when King Alfred the Great set about laying the foundation to recover his civilization.I have no way of proving this idea, but there was a passage that struck me as being the inspiration for one of the well know quotes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. Read this from Boethius: "This very place which thou callest exile is to them that dwell therein their native land. So true is it that nothing is wretched, but thinking makes it so, and conversely every lot is happy if borne with equanimity."And here's Hamlet Act II, Scene ii: "Why, then, 'tis none to you; for there is nothingeither good or bad, but thinking makes it so: to meit is a prison."Too much of a match to be mere coincidence.The book's impact cannot be measured. Boethius himself cast a long shadow against the centuries, his translations and commentaries of classic Greek philosophical texts were used by the educated Christian world during the Medieval Scholastic period and beyond.The Consolation is a fusion of Christian and Classical Greek and Roman thought that quite literally changed the world.

As a younger man, I disdained any version which turned Boethius's unrhymed Latin meters into rhymed English- how could such versions be literal? Mellowed out in middle age, and still unable to read the original, I appreciate James's renditions and imagine them as faithful in their way as any before or since:SONG I. The Thorns of Error.Who fain would sow the fallow field,And see the growing corn,Must first remove the useless weeds,The bramble and the thorn.After ill savour, honey's tasteIs to the mouth more sweet;After the storm, the twinkling starsThe eyes more cheerly greet.When night hath past, the bright dawn comesIn car of rosy hue;So drive the false bliss from thy mind,And thou shall see the true.It is a very edifying work- very worthwhile reading when one is in a serious mood. It is more of a distillation or recapitulation of ancient philosophy (from Plato to Seneca) than bold new thought- Augustine is better in that respect.... And yet wealth cannot extinguish insatiable greed, nor has power ever made him master of himself whom vicious lusts kept bound in indissoluble fetters; dignity conferred on the wicked not only fails to make them worthy, but contrarily reveals and displays their unworthiness. Why does it so happen? Because ye take pleasure in calling by false names things whose nature is quite incongruous thereto—by names which are easily proved false by the very effects of the things themselves; even so it is; these riches, that power, this dignity, are none of them rightly so called.Finally, something which struck me forcibly when I read it a year ago:... But let us consider a few instances whereby appears what is the competency of human reason to fathom the Divine unsearchableness. Here is one whom thou deemest the perfection of justice and scrupulous integrity; to all-knowing Providence it seems far otherwise. I admit I'd first heard of this book when reading Confederacy of Dunces decades ago. I thought I should read read it and it was worthwhile ,if not consistently fascinating.I suspect this is a somewhat weird translation , very faux Shakespearean or Elizabethan .Although at times it's deliberately antiquarian tone works.The first half to three quarters of the book are the best.There if your patient you'll find a lot of nuggets of solid moral philosophy and considerable literary charm and imagination.The later part of the book seems overly preoccupied with the problem of free will and how can there be free will in a world where God foreknows all.The fact that I thought I had an easier and clearer answer to this problem than the embodiment of Philosophy did not lead me to think I'm a philosophical genius.Rather I suspect I was dealing with something that deeply troubled the author for reasons I don't understand.You will know you are not in the modern world when you read this but do not for a moment conclude that this books concerns have been rendered irrelevant by modern"enlightenment".

I can understand why some people might not love this book. It gets a bit meandering at times, and the timeline is somewhat nonlinear, which can make it difficult to follow the story at times. It also helps to have read Complexity by Mitchell Waldrop as a precursor. Beyond that, another difficulty arises with the way the detailed description of sometimes seemingly superficial matters such as the way people are dressed, as one other reviewer noted and I somewhat agree with. in other words, there are times in reading this book that one can get distracted. To add to this, it is not clear that any sane non-mathematical reader would want to read this book and expect to learn how to beat or predict the markets. On the other hand, it also doesn't seem that someone who is deeply scientific would want to read this book either, with its absence of equations and precise definitional technicality for explaining some of the more interesting foundational ideas such as fractals and neural networks. Instead, Bass is merely dropping clues as to how the world of finance actually works. Read between the lines, and one take is the Predictors dropoff point to either be cynical of all financial markets. But I think in a way his real point is that the business of prediction is messy and historically intertwined with everything from the history of the modern computing age and to the evolution of ever more abstract financial techniques that have lead us to bitcoin. That the Predictors would eventually make money ends up being besides the point.

Enjoyable account of scientists applying their knowledge to trading. The book is a little shallow, in terms of depth, since it neither describes the models or strategies in any detail nor gives much in the way of trading anecdotes. The best part of the book is the challenges the founders face as entrepreneurs-- raising capital and structuring a new business (compensation, responsibilities, juggling sales and modeling). Overall, an interesting read if you are in the industry, but probably a little slow for those who love Michael Lewis' work.

I loved it enough to re-read, something rare for me. I plan to read it a couple more times. I even made a pilgrimage to the Santa Fe institute to see where these guys hang out.It is set in a world of math, finance, brainiacs, and the great Southwest--all fun things!It's a much better book than Bass' other book about these guys, "Eudamonic Pie." The big caveat is that I read Waldrip's "Complexity" first. I can't imagine the book being nearly as much fun without that background.

Before Michael Lewis and his deserved bestseller Flash Boys, before the LTCM implosion in 1998 there were The Predictors. Gaining an understanding of modern financial markets and how our stock market currently works (or fails to work...) requires an understanding of how the Wall Street morality of "gaming the system," met the computer revolution. The Predictors is one important contribution to that understanding.

This book captures several components of a worthy story. It chronicles the pursuit by brilliant, seasoned, and spirited scientists to accomplish the seemingly impossible. It tells enough of their personal stories to make the pursuit interesting. It also includes enough technical detail to give the reader an idea of the complexity of their problem, and it gives an insight into the workings of the world's mysterious investment system.I believe the book would be worthy for anyone interested in those components and I highly recommend it as a testimony to the determination, intelligence, and knowledge of some people who make their fortunes in the high tech world. My only slight disappointment was that the ending left some questions unanswered, such as what next!

The Preidictors is a good book, easy read, entertaining but including enough detail to be interesting to the experienced trader. A bit light on the math and science behind the methodology, but that may be propietary and too technical for non math types anyway.

Interesting story of group that beat the market. I like to read about smart people doing something extraordinary.

Bass writes lucidly about science and the decidedly odd interface between Wall Streeters in Armani suits and Birkenstock-wearing science guys in the desert. An enjoyable, informative and entertaining read. His earlier work about the same crew and Vegas, Eudanomic Pie, is great too.

Where Men Win GloryJon Krakauer's where Men Win Glory is a page turning, can't put it down book about the life and death of a very complex man, Pat Tillman. The only fault I find with Krakauer's book is the title. Tillman was an unselfish man in pursuit of honor, not glory. After reading the book, I was impressed by his ethic, incredulous at his decision to enlist, and despondent to the point of tears for the how and why he died and the ensuing cover-up by the army.Depending upon the source, Tillman was a very good to just above average football player. Krakauer develop Tillman's character from early in his life as a risk taker who s challenged himself, not so much for the thrill, but the development of self reliance and self confidence. A character willing to stand up for the Little guy, to the point of fault, the path of least resistance never seemed to be the road taken. He had a great sense of loyalty to family, friends, teammates, the Arizona Cardinals, and his ranger comrades.I looked upon the book as a story with a long prelude, that explains why Pat Tillman made the decision to enlist in the Army, and Krakauer does a brilliant job providing the reader with a dissection of Tillman's complexity. Why would a man who, to the average person, had everything, give it all up? Upon finishing Where Men Win Glory, the reader might begin to understand.From the introduction to Part Two, a quote from Chris Hedges, "A Culture of Atrocity""War is always about betrayal, betrayal of the young by the old, of idealists by cynics and of troops by politicians." Krakauer leads the reader to understand that after Tillman made the decision to enlist, though filled with second thoughts, he believed in, and followed through with the commitments he made. He was a man who had questions about serving the man in charge, George Bush, but not the country he volunteered to protect. Yet, though he would follow through with orders given, his insights and analysis helps one understand why the armed forces prefer them young and dumb.Krakauer is keen in his judgements and implications of the shadiness of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld regime, in cahoots with a military powerful, like none other in the history of the world, yet possessing a command structure with the overall intelligence of someone with a room temperature IQ. The book periodically exposes the public relations stunts by the Bush Administration to capitalize on small stories, loaded with prevarication, to obscure messes wandered into by the army in Iraq and Afghanistan, notably the Jessica Lynch story that provided escape from the fratricide and casualties during the attack Nasriyah and the cover-up of Tillman's death, and what was nothing more than the scapegoating of his platoon leader, Lieutenant David Uthlaut.Krakauer makes extensive use of Pat Tillman's journal and written correspondence. This provides insight into the mind, the method and the madness of what made Pat Tillman. Defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, in his eulogy to pat Tillman catches the essence of the man," as fiercely unique, with a strong dislike for the easy way out. He was caring, he was thoughtful and he was soft. Pat was soft in the heart. He was humble yet confident, reserved, but he was hard. You wanted this guy on your team, and it didn't have to be a football team..." In the end, Tillman's decision to join the army and fight in Afghanistan was not a tragic flaw in this unique man's short Journey through life, but a "tragic virtue."I highly recommend Jon Krakauer's book about the life of Pat Tillman, Where Men Win Glory.

If you're looking for a book to make you feel good about the wars in Iraq and/or Afghanistan, skip this one. Reading about Tillman's journey that took him on an uncommon journey to a sad conclusion brings to mind the death Kelton Turner, an 18-year old Marine, the last soldier killed Vietnam in 1975. We can and should ask, "Why? What was accomplished by their sacrifices and the pain and sacrifices of their families?"Does Krakauer's telling to the Tillman story represent truth, a sliver of truth or something more? Each reader will reach his or her own conclusion. Mine is this: Everyone should read the book and then set it down and reflect. There are important lessons therein.Unfortunately, I fear those lessons will be easily forgotten or worse, ignored.

Many people decry Krakauer's narrative of Pat Tillman as politically slanted in this book. I disagree. Krakauer both humanizes and heroificates Pat Tillman, providing an honest, yet inspiring portrait of the man who walked away from a multimillion dollar NFL contract to serve his country. Tragically, a large part of Pat's story is the high-level cover-up that shrouded the details of his friendly fire killing as propaganda. Krakauer spares no punches against those involved, but never shifts the focus off of Tillman, as using him as a symbol of liberal dissatisfaction would be just as dehumanizing as his posthumous portrayal by the Bush administration. Readers of this book will leave with new perspective not on the war on terror, but with life as a whole. I think it's what Pat would have wanted.

I was blown away by this book. The way the Tillman family was treated by the US Army after Pat died was heartbreaking. Like most Americans, I love my country. However, this book helped me to understand what I think we all suspect. The US government and military will do what is right for themselves, not what is right for its people or its soldiers. Our country is headed for a dark place if this type of leadership is allowed to continue. I've never read about or heard of a man like Pat Tillman. Men like Pat (if they even exist) are the unique type of human being truly capable of altruistic leadership, but how can these men succeed in a culture where cheaters and liars have the obvious advantage and are the type that covet positions of power?? This book was enlightening, concerning, and inspiring. Krakauer is a fine writer and I'm very thankful that he shared Pat Tillman's story. THANK YOU!

Excellent account of the conspiracy to cover up the death of Pat Tillman by friendly fire.Were it not for the courageous, persistent, relentless pressure put on the military by Pat's mother, Mary Tillman, the truth would never have been revealed to the public by the military who were trying to cover up the fratricide. Mary, Kevin (Pat's brother) and Mary's brother Mike held the military accountable and were shocked to learn that the men responsible for killing Pat and his commanding officers were not going to be punished for the murder and cover up!
